At Mero Pusta, we believe that marriage is a sacred spiritual and social union of two individuals and families. We are deeply committed to protecting social values, preserving our beautiful cultural traditions, and eradicating harmful practices. Mero Pusta maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards the Dowry System (दाइजो, तिलक, तथा दस्तुर प्रथा) across all aspects of our family and matrimonial service.

"म प्रतिवद्धता व्यक्त गर्दछु कि म दाइजो प्रथाको विरुद्धमा छु र दाइजो बिनाको आदर्श विवाह स्वीकार गर्छु। विवाह दुई परिवार र हृदयको पवित्र मिलन हो, कुनै भौतिक वा आर्थिक लेनदेनको सौदाबाजी होइन।"
"I solemnly pledge that I stand firmly against the dowry system and support dowry-free, ideal marriages. Marriage is a pure union of two hearts and families, not a transaction of material or financial gains."
1. Scope of the Policy
This Policy applies strictly to all users of Mero Pusta, with special emphasis on participants of the Shubha Lagan matrimonial platform. All registered matchmaking profiles must align with these ideals.
2. Alignment with Nepali Civil and Criminal Laws
This policy is built in strict adherence to the statutes of Nepal:
- Muluki Crime Code, 2074 (Section 174 - Prohibition of Demanding or Receiving Dowry): In Nepal, forcing, demanding, or receiving dowry in marriage is a criminal offense. Violators face imprisonment ranging from 1 to 3 years or a fine up to NPR 30,000, or both, along with a mandate to return the received assets to the bride.
- Social Behavior Reform Act, 2033: Regulating wedding expenditures, guests, and banning the transaction of "Tilak" or heavy gifts as a prerequisite for solemnizing marriages.
3. Prohibited Conduct
The following activities are strictly prohibited on Mero Pusta:
- Coercive Requests: Asking, directly or indirectly, for dowry, vehicle demands, real estate titles, cash, gold, or jewelry during matching conversations or pre-marriage discussions.
- Profile Declarations: Writing terms in profile bios, educational requirements, or partner descriptions suggesting that matches are expected to provide financial assets or gifts.
- Commercial Negotiation: Treating matchmaking matches as commercial arrangements or negotiating financial transactions under the pretext of traditional wedding ceremonies.
- Abuse & Harassment: Terminating matches or harassing matching families due to dissatisfaction with the financial or material status or dowry-related expectations.
4. Reporting and Accountability
If any user or user's family makes a dowry request or introduces financial prerequisites during your chat on Mero Pusta, or in external meetings arranged through the platform, you must act:
- In-App Flagging: Tap on the user's profile and choose "Report Member," detailing the transaction demand.
- Direct Legal Support: Send screenshots, chat logs, or audio recordings of the incident to
antidowry@meropusta.com.
5. Repercussions of Non-Compliance
Upon verification of any dowry demand or transaction requirement:
- The offending user's matrimonial profile will be terminated immediately without warning.
- Their verified account credentials and associated data will be blacklisted across our cloud registry to prevent future signups.
- If requested by competent public investigators or the police, we will provide the chat history and registration logs of the perpetrator to assist in legal action under Section 174 of the Muluki Crime Code, 2074.
